Living City Automobile Sequence
The Automobile and the Living City
The automobile plays a central role in Frank Lloyd Wright’s project The Living City. His vision for the future predicted that the automobile and other machines would redefine the spatial, social and economic structure of America. Even though all of his ideas were not realized the impact that his projections have had on the American landscape are profound,.
In his text “The Living City”, FLW defines the motorcar as a social leveling device. He believed that the automobile would allow for both wealthy and underprivileged to have freedom of movement and their own land. The ability to move about the country unhindered spoke to the very core of democratic values for Mr. Wright. The freedom which the automobile allowed for would create a situation where the urban poor would no longer be confined to living in rental property and working a job that was unfulfilling. The beautiful vision of the Living City has influenced urban planners and architects for the last 70 years and it seems that today Frank Lloyd Wright’s ideas are more relevant than ever.

Baghdad University Automobile Perspective
This is a first pass at animating the automobile drive around the ziggerat - camera will be tweaked for less of the drunken driving effect. Flythrough of campus including the opera to come.

Mile High - Edited Draft
We will need to re-render most of the 3d sequences at high resolution and at the full frame rate. Some sequences still need cars and people.

Greenery
As a corollary to my previous post on trees and shrubs, I'd like to point you to the parametric Onyx Tree Generator - recommended here at the GSD. Find it in public\software\winapps\Onyx\Onyx Garden 2.0. Accurate, customizeable models of various species in their ready-made tree library are exportable as 3D geometry or 2D cards to be rendered in your 3D app.

Mile High - Elevation Reference Test Animation
There might be some copyright issues with the elevation reference image (from skyscraperpage.com)— I could see if we can get permission to use the images. Otherwise, we can try to use single-tone silhouettes of the building.

Arizona State Capital Animation Trial
This animation is a test and therefore resolution and quality is low - for later versions there will be less flicker, as well as touchups.
Harvard GSD Render Farm
If rendering your animations using Maya or Max, consider taking advantage of the GSD RenderFarm. Some of you have asked me about it - please consult the help documentation before pushing the render button.
