Imperial Hotel Storyboard

The concept for the Imperial Hotel is a reconstructed tour through the building achieved by stitching still images together. Using photosynth software the viewer will be able to click through images guiding them through the public spaces of the hotel. The stitched stills will be supplemented with sounds of the bustling lobby and banquet hall etc. and shadowy silhouettes that will populate the images and further activate the spaces.

Itinerary showing indicated areas of interest on plan:

The banquet room is located on the top floor of the central mass of the building.

Imperial Hotel: Book Scans: courtyard gardens

There are two courtyard gardens within the mass of the hotel. They are basically the elements in the entire complex that have true Japanese style.

Imperial Hotel: Book Scans: Auditorium

The third part of the building that is worth noting is the auditorium/cabaret. It has a very sophisticated plan and the details of the decor were also exquisite. The room was renowned for its superb acoustics.

Imperial Hotel: Book Scans: Promenade

The promenade is another key area in the building. There seem to be a lot of documentation of the space. There are even some color pictures.

Imperial Hotel: Book Scans: Grand entrance and lobby

The first area that has potential to be made interactive is the main area and the lobby area. The spaces in this area are really complicated. There are a lot of interlocking spaces. It would be nice to give the audience that the drawings might not be able to provide.
