baghdad opera with changes
baghdad opera with changes from Sidi Gomes on Vimeo.
Baghdad Opera House comments
•transitions between drawings should be smoother.
•Second drawing too slow? And zoom in more and then go to your animations
•Take out blank moments between scenes
•Cars and people should get a little hint of color – looks too flat now
•Building is too pale: should be more orangy/yellow
addressed
•Trees in the center spaces missing: this can just be cut and paste from the drawings into the animation (will also help to give it some texture)
I added some grain to the scene to give it more texture. but there isn't enough time to add trees, make trees look good, and blend with drawn look style. And would have to rerender the entire scene in HD.
•1.20 can we get drawing move in earlier?
Tried before didn’t look good (tried other other variations as well, I picked the best one)
•Between 0.35 and 0.42: put the waterfall here.
•Go from garden to opera house
This does not follow the flow of the camera motion to try and make it a cohesive piece - which is done by having the same camera moving from the drawing and then into the 3d model and that part of the animation, etc (and not simply cutting from the drawing to the 3d animation, cutting back to drawing, etc…)
•We need some skies: a nice blue
Blue skies will not work with the concept of this animation, which transitions between drawings and 3d animation. For example: the skies would not work with transition into section drawing, since skies would also require a context, ground, etc, which then would be difficult to transition to the section drawing – which needs a more abstract, isolated look at the building (I tried putting skies before, and it didn’t look good). The masterplan university animation will give a sense of the context. This is a more focused look at the building.
•Color: replace section drawing from Oskar with color that mina has given: then there is some more vibrant color
I adjusted the saturation of the drawing in ‘aftereffects’ – this will bring out the yellow and green in the drawings.
In addition I don’t have this drawing from Mina. She only gave me drawing perspective 5733 .007 (plus that would mean rerendering the entire sequence in HD. No time for that…)
•1.10 the arch is missing the perforations still
Don’t have enough information to build that part, so went with the overall massing of the arch instead , tried a version and looked very awkward with the holes (especially since there isn’t information on what would go inside the holes), (There isn’t enough information to figure out how a section through that arch looks like so I couldn’t build it)
•Minaret: can also be taken straight from drawing: now it doesn’t look good
By Minaret do you mean the “sword of Mahommet” (the spire like thing in front of the opera entrance)? The information for that was already taken from the drawing – check elevation 5733.032 (which is the most detailed drawing of it)
•1.16: water color should be changed to similar in water from drawing
•Cut from 2.15 onwards, and pan back into opera house and then garden instead : can be same material as opening scenes just reverse/different order
This would be a different animation, and we dont have enough time to do it. – and bring up other issues for further changes. This part has been set for a while. From last meeting only suggestion was to fix the ending which I did.

Opera progress modeling
The modeling of the Baghdad Opera and the University were restarted because we received updated drawings of the site that were more accurate. (Previous iterations were based off of perspective renderings and had numerous geometric discrepancies.) Below are updates of the Opera model, which is in development. The idea will be to transition from inside to outside.
Notes:
1. The materials on the model will be very abstract (essentially flat or colored surfaces), rendered in a "sketch" style as Arlene has been developing through post production. The style will be to continue the colored-pencil aesthetic for the 3D version.
2. The goal of the model/animation will be to describe the building's geometric complexities.
